Dan Brereton Signed One-Shot Comic Now Available
I reached out to artist Dan Brereton and he's agreed to sign copies of the one-shot comic featuring his amazing cover. I expect these to go fast, so act now. 25 are available, some as a reward tier and some as an add-on.
Fangoria Covers Kolchak 50 Campaign
Legendary horror magazine Fangoria interviewed me about the Kickstarter campaign and did a spectacular feature. If you're not sick of me talking about Kolchak, give it a read. Or just look at the pictures. They're pretty nice.
Speaking of Dan Brereton, he's running a Kickstarter of his own this month for BY THE BLADE, a 124-page hardcover celebrating swordslingers and she-wolves, ronin and reavers, masters of blade and battle. It's Dan's tribute to Sword & Sorcery, Samurai Chambara, Weird Tales and Heroic Fantasy.

As always, a big thank-you to all you backers, who are supporting the project and spreading the word like wildfire. We couldn't do this without you. Let the other Kolchak fans out there know about the Kickstarter and let's make sure we have more books in the future.

New Limited-Edition Kolchak Print
We have some cool things for you today as we head toward 1000 backers!
New YorkTimes bestselling author and artist John Jennings (Blue Hand Mojo: Hard Times Road) has illustrated a special Kolchak print just for our backers. We're printing only 200, all of which will be signed and numbered.
The print is available as an add-on and bundled with the softcover and hardcover editions of the anthology.
If you've already backed a reward tier, you can go in and edit your pledge to add this print as well as any other add-on. If you have questions, feel free to message us on Kickstarter.
Next Stretch Goal
When we hit, $75K, everyone will get a free digital book about the making of the Kolchak project, with scripts, sketches, uncolored pages and whatever else we can think of to take you behind the scenes of Kolchak 50. Help us get there by sharing the campaign link:
13th Dimension has a preview of Peter David and J.K. Woodward's Kolchak story as well as the first two lettered pages of my story with Colton Worley, "Satanic Panic '88."
That Which Cannot Be Undone: An Ohio Horror Anthology
Here's another cool Kickstarter...
Did you think Maine has a monopoly on horror? Think again...
Truth be told, a multitude of well-known, award-winning authors of horror populate Ohio. Earlier this year, Cracked Skull Press, an assembly of four Ohio-based horror writers, formed with a single goal: to create an anthology of twenty terrifying tales featuring their strange state, slated to be released in October of 2022.
Whether supernatural, psychological, gothic, slasher, or eldritch, what unites each story is that they are all set in Ohio and revolve around the theme of "that which cannot be undone."
Authors contributing stories to the anthology include Bram Stoker Award-winners Gary Braunbeck, Lucy Snyder, Tim Waggoner, Gwendolyn Kiste, and Kealan Patrick Burke; New York Times and USA Today bestselling Megan Hart—and many more. We have also enlisted the editorial skills of Bram Stoker Award-winning Jess Landry.
With your support, we will forge an anthology worthy of the rich tradition of Ohio horror.
And a big thanks to all the backers, who are supporting the project and spreading the word like wildfire. We couldn't do this without you. Let the other Kolchak fans out there know about the Kickstarter and let's make sure we have more books in the future.
Gabriel Hardman Story Added — Stretch Goal #2 Unlocked; Plus, 2-Page Preview of Satanic Panic '88

11th Story Added!
Yes, you heard right. Green Lantern, Star Wars and Hulk writer/artist Gabriel Hardman has joined the Kolchak 50 project. Hardman, who's done the storyboards for such movies as Logan and The Dark Knight Rises, will write and illustrate a Kolchak story that will be available in the digital, softcover and hardcover editions of our graphic novels.
Bleeding Cool also revealed the first two (unlettered) pages of my story "Satanic Panic '88," illustrated by Colton Worley. The story sees Kolchak investigating the disappearance of a teen girl and the arrest of her goth boyfriend in a small town obsessed with the Devil in 1988.
(For those asking, "Satanic Panic '88" will be published in all of our books and PDFs: the one-shot comic book, the softcover, and the deluxe hardcovers.)
My Interview on Word Balloon
I appeared on Word Balloon to chat about — what else? — Kolchak. We spent an inordinate amount of time casting an imaginary Kolchak reboot series.

– Sat, Jan 15, 2022 at 12:09:50 PM
We hit our first stretch goal!
More than 600 Kolchak fans have now backed the campaign and we're going strong.
As our first stretch goal, we're raising the payment for prose stories we accept through our open submissions to $100. If you didn't know, you can submit a Kolchak prose short story after the campaign for inclusion in the Deluxe Hardcovers. We're taking 10 stories. Guidelines are below...
GUIDELINES FOR KOLCHAK 50TH ANNIVERSARY PROSE ANTHOLOGY
Payment: $100
Length: 1500 to 5000 words (but the sweet spot is between 3000 and 3500 words)
Submission Period: Immediately following the Kolchak 50 Kickstarter campaign, on February 11, until May 15, 2022 or until filled
No multiple submissions and no reprints
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Here’s your chance to write a classic Kolchak story. Like the theme for the 50th anniversary graphic novel, the prose anthology will consist of stories from throughout Kolchak’s life, from the late 1930s to the late ’90s. Please, be familiar with Kolchak before writing your story and watch the TV movies and series! Here's a bio for the character. While we’re looking for writers to submit full stories, you can send a story pitch to the editor before you write the story. But, please, don’t send stories before the submissions period opens.
Don't get hung up on the personal details of Kolchak's life. Like the TV shows, keep the focus on the investigation. You're best off not adding a wife or long-lost cousin to Kolchak's biography.
HOW TO SEND A STORY
Use classic Shunn formatting. Send as an attachment in doc or docx. In the subject line, put "Kolchak 50 Prose Anthology," the name of your story, and author name. Example: Kolchak 50 Prose Anthology – Story Title – Author Name.
Email story submissions, pitches, and inquiries to [email protected]

Wow! What a first day of the campaign. Here's a quick rundown of highlights.
We hit our funding goal in about two and a half hours.
Kickstarter made us a Project We Love.
We gathered more than 500 backers in the first 24 hours.
We sold out of several tiers.
Media powerhouse IGN did a writeup on the campaign, revealing J.K. Woodward's Batman homage cover and the first 5 pages of Kim Newman and Paul McCaffrey's story, "Interview With the Night Stalker."
And we're only getting started. We'll have plenty of updates and sneak peeks at the book in the days to come. In fact, here's a panel for Peter David's 1954 story "The Enemy Within," painted by J.K. Woodward.
THE NIGHT STALKER TURNS 50 TODAY
The TV movie The Night Stalker, which introduced the world to Kolchak, aired on this date (January 11) in 1972 on ABC.
Today is a great day to celebrate Kolchak. So, please, spread the word about the campaign.
